About us
Gurt Lush Food Co was born from a long-standing love of good food, a few broken promises, and a journey toward looking after ourselves — one breakfast at a time.
It all started back in 2015, fresh out of uni and living in Cheltenham, when our housemate Matty would regularly promise to make us homemade granola. Spoiler: it never happened. But the idea stuck.
A lot of partying, but not a lot of granola making in said kitchen
In 2016, my housemate Rosanna and I took our shared love of cooking and turned it into something tangible — a little food blog called Gin and Supper Club, where we shared recipes and dinner ideas. It was a creative outlet, and more importantly, a way to connect through food.
We really channelled the 'gin' in 'gin and supper club'
Fast forward to lockdown 2020, and like many others, I found myself in a very different world. The blog morphed into a local catering business, delivering fresh meals around the area — comforting, nourishing food at a time we all needed it.
One of many, many meals that were churned out
Then, in September 2023, I was signed off from my job as a probation officer due to poor mental health. It was a tough but necessary turning point. I started doing something I’d never really done before: taking care of myself. That began with something as simple as eating breakfast.
The oh so familiar doctors office
Overnight oats were the first attempt… but the texture wasn’t for me. So I experimented with homemade granola instead — and it clicked. Crunchy, satisfying, and endlessly customisable. I shared batches with friends and family, and the response was overwhelming: “You should sell this.”
Before we ditched the peanuts and mastered the clusters
And so, in September 2024, I took the leap. I left my job in probation and officially launched Gurt Lush Food Co — named for that classic West Country phrase that means something is really, really good. Because that’s what we’re about: real food, made with love, that makes you feel good.
Our first batch was a complete sellout
We started on Etsy, built up a loyal following through local markets and wholesale customers, and now — here we are — with our very own website.
Before we discovered that the key to a successful market is tasters
Everything we make is small-batch, thoughtfully created, and packed by hand. It’s food rooted in care, community, and the belief that the little things — like breakfast — can make a big difference.
Thanks for being here. We’re so glad you found us.
